How to Download a DJ Mix Clip from YouTube
(MP4 or MP3)

Why people want to clip DJ mixes

DJs and labels post full sets and mixes on YouTube — often 1 to 2 hours of continuous audio. You’re not interested in the whole thing. You want the one track that played at the 34-minute mark, the transition that caught your ear, or the b2b moment you want to replay. Saving the entire mix just to get one part wastes time and storage.

SliceYT solves this by letting you clip any specific segment of a YouTube DJ mix and save it as MP4 or MP3. You set your start and end timestamps, choose your format, and save just that part.

MP3 vs MP4 — which should you use?

Choose MP3 when you only want the audio. It produces a smaller file and is perfect for adding to a music library, listening offline, playing in a car, or sharing the audio with someone. MP3 has no video track — just the audio extracted from your selected time range.

Choose MP4 when you want the video as well as the audio. Use MP4 if you want to share the visual performance, use the clip in a video edit, or post it as a video to social media. MP4 exports as H.264 video with AAC audio for maximum compatibility.

For most DJ mix clips where the visual is just a static artwork or crowd shot, MP3 is usually the better choice.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Find your timestamp on YouTubeOpen the DJ mix on YouTube and scrub to the moment you want to clip. Note the timestamp shown in the player (e.g. 34:20). If the video has chapters, click the chapter marker nearest to your track.
  2. Paste the URL into SliceYTCopy the YouTube URL and paste it into sliceyt.com. Click “Get Video” to load the video info.
  3. Set your start and end timestampsType your start and end times into the H:MM:SS fields for precision. You can also use the slider handles to drag to your range.
  4. Choose MP3 or MP4 and saveSelect MP3 under “Audio Only” for audio-only export, or choose a video quality tab for MP4. Click “Save Clip” and the file downloads directly to your device.

Tips for finding the right timestamp

Use YouTube chapters if available. Many DJ mixes and label uploads include chapter markers with track names. Click the “☰” icon on the progress bar in YouTube to see the chapter list. Each chapter shows its start time — use that as your start timestamp in SliceYT.

If there are no chapters, scrub through the video manually. Press the right arrow key to move 5 seconds forward, or press L to skip 10 seconds. The current position is shown in the bottom-left corner of the YouTube player.

To identify the track, use a track ID service like Shazam or SoundHound on your phone while the YouTube video plays.

FAQ

Can I save the audio only as MP3?
Yes. Select MP3 under “Audio Only” in the quality picker before clicking Save Clip. You’ll get just the audio from your selected segment exported as an MP3 file — no video, smaller file size.
Does it work on mixes without chapter markers?
Yes. Chapter markers are optional. You can type any start and end timestamp directly into the H:MM:SS fields in SliceYT. The video doesn’t need chapters — you just need to know the timestamps of the moment you want to clip.
Is there a length limit?
Free plan clips are limited to 2 minutes. Creator Pro plans unlock longer clips: up to 30 minutes on the monthly plan, and up to 2 hours on the yearly plan. There is no limit on the number of clips you can export.
